Suggested ways to "subsidize" a conference or seminar
- If you are booking one of the General White Rose seminars or conferences, talk to your local synagogue, Hillel, or Jewish Studies program about sponsoring Ruth for the Shoah: German Resistance and the Jewish Community seminar on the same or next day. They would be able to share travel costs.
- Approach German- and Jewish-affiliated businesses in your community and ask them to underwrite the conference or seminar in exchange for their corporate information appearing on all announcements. Sports teams do this all the time! - If you need a listing of members of the German-American Chamber of Commerce or related in your area, please contact us. This offer is valid only for confirmed reservations.
- Hold a separate luncheon or dinner before or after the seminar or conference that allows more informal Q&A. As long as the seminar or conference is paid in full, there is no extra charge for the speaker's time for such an event. (We do assume, however, that you will pay for Ruth's meal!)
- For every purchase of White Rose History, Volume I (or II or III) - whether regular edition or academic version - directly associated with a participant in your conference, Exclamation! Publishers and Center for White Rose Studies will grant a credit towards speaker's fees of $5 for a three-hour session and $10 for all others. This credit will be deducted from the final payment due two weeks before the conference or seminar begins.
- Stage a reading of Ruth Hanna Sachs' Abandonment (see General White Rose for additional information) and charge admission. Especially if you've chosen one of the more serious topics, this could be healthy.
- For colleges and universities: Contact your alumni association. They may know of an alumnus (alumna) or a group of alumni who would support this endeavor.
It is our fervent wish that all who would know more about German resistance during the Shoah may in fact do so, regardless of ability to pay our fees. To that end, we are trying to build up a Speakers' Bureau fund that would enable us to provide speakers to smaller synagogues, churches, universities, colleges, high schools, and civic organizations. To contribute to this fund, click here.
We cannot make any promises at this date, because our resources are stretched thin. However, if you wish to schedule Ruth Hanna Sachs (or another speaker) for your organization and cannot afford our speakers' fees, let us know. We will put your name on our wait list and notify you as funds become available.
We only ask that if you can afford to pay - especially if your organization has the (wo)manpower to undertake one of the above suggestions - that you do so, enabling our Speakers' Bureau Fund to be used for organizations that are truly impoverished.
